The silver foil makers of Charminar

A Varakh/Waraq is pure silver beaten into thin lustrous sheets used for edible decorative purpose.

These sheets are made by pounding small pieces of silver placed inside a booklet wrapped in a leather pouch. The silver pieces are hammered for about three hours to become thin foils. The finished varak is then kept in between papers to avoid possible damages.
