Most likely the only store in India that is dedicated to selling only a startling variety of magazines, ‘Magazines’ is in a basement on Bangalore’s Church Street, right below the Benetton outlet.
The store has an unimaginable range of magazines on sale, national and international, and on all kinds of topics – music, movies, art, travel, interiors, sports, cars, bikes (there is a magazine called The Dirt Rider, did you know that?), weddings and more. The range practically borders on mind-boggling, and the best part is the astronomical discount tag attached to the clean back issues of magazines from the UK and the US; it is a collector’s delight, the whole store.
‘Magazines’ also has quite a few coffee table books to pick from. And it is not unusual to find a lazy cat mistaking a coffee table book for the table itself and curling up on it for a nap. The cats are not for sale, though; they are limited edition Persian. Friendly and docile as they are, they are one of the reasons the store is popular with the regulars; it is the idea of saying hello to the felines that brings someone here to pick up a regular India Today or Outlook Business available even at the local newspaper sellers.
If you are a fanatic or a collector missing that elusive NatGeo issue or a Tintin in your collection, you might want to head to Magazines as well because word-of-mouth is that the store also procures back issues of comics and magazines on request.
So irrespective of what appeals to you – the cats or the collection - Magazines is one store you should definitely drop into on your next stroll down Church Street.
