Judging books by their covers

by The India Tube

Although we know there's life beyond the Indian kitsch, we couldn't help noticing the fun look of Blaft Publications' books and, simply thought judging them by their covers, discover their interesting editorial selection.

Named after a legendary (as in: made up by Blaft Publicaition) magical writing instrument that could both cut lines on palm leaves and be used as a fighting weapon, Blaft Publications is a small publishing house founded in 2008 in Chennai.

Blaft publishes mainly comics, graphic novels, visual books. Plus, and perhaps more interestingly, the publishing house prints translations of quirky, experimental and popular narrative from regional languages of India to English. They translated two anthologies of Tamil pulp fiction and recently released translations of the work of classic Urdu detective novelist Ibne Safi.

So next time you are in a bookstore, keep your eyes open for Blaft's books to add healty bit of kitsh to your book collection and enjoy some regional popular fiction.
