Bombay Electric

by Annalisa Merelli

I am not necessarily proud of it, but I always end up being one of those. Those being the ones who fall for trends like "the cool thing from the cool store". So of course I have my own I ♥ NY t-shirt, and a few pencils, notebooks, and general nothingness from Colette. And, just to feel cooler than the average Colette and I-heart crowd, I own, with love and pride, t-shirts with Bombay Electric logo.

Now if you are wondering what is Bombay Electric, I assume you have never been to Bombay, which is a real shame. And if you have been to Bombay and yet don't know what Bombay Electric is, well, all I can say is you are really missing out.

Bombay Electric is the most progressive and interesting fashion store in Mumbai, and possibly in the whole country. It's the kind of boutique in which you'd feel like going even if you have nothing to buy. The collection ranges from daywear to soirée dresses, from the most precious saaris to the coolest t-shirts, from items of famous Indian designers to hand woven cashmere shawl. Bombay Electric mixes the vintage and the cutting edge and everything in the middle, and even if in most cases I can't really afford to buy anything, it's nice to browse through the shelves, get inspired, and dream.

The shop is hosted inside a heritage building and has a nice courtyard where concerts, parties and photography exhibitions happen under the shadow of lush palm trees. Which, let's be honest, gives even to I'm-not-into-fashion kind of people a reason to show up at Bombay Electric.

And, please, don't resist the impulse to buy one of the t-shirts. The one with the hearth, or the one with "Bombay" written with little golden stars on black background? Maybe both. I know you'll want them, and I think you shouldn't resist your desire. Actually, maybe if you get more than one, mail in to tell me: I have more than one, in different designs and colors, and I desperately need to thin down my brand addict guilt. Just enough that I can go back, and buy one more.
