While there is no lack of cool places to hang out in Hauz Khas Village, Kunzum Cafe in Delhi is a rare find, offering locals and travelers alike a comfortable place to exchange travel stories with the option to "pay what you like" for tea, coffee and cookies.
What started off as a photo gallery has evolved into a meeting place for travelers. As the owner explains, "I'm a traveller, so when I'm out I want to have a place where I can sit around and meet with other travellers. A place where I can spend half the day and no one minds. In a city there are often invisible barriers and people aren't as apt to strike up a conversation as you would in a smaller town, so I wanted to bring that to Delhi."
The wicker chairs, mooras and low coffee tables offer cosy seating in a space that hosts travelers talks, music events and soon to come movie nights. To add to the travel atmosphere the walls are filled with big framed photographs from Kashmir, Rajasthan and Nepal and there is a library chocked full of travel books, magazines and travel guides available for all. Free wi-fi is running all day and plugging your ipod into the cafe's music player is encouraged. A travel board on the wall also encourages visitors to share stories, events and travel tips.
In a city where most cafes charge high prices and discourage lounging around, Kunzum Travel Cafe is a refreshing addition, encouraging a long stay and a relaxing escape from the city.
