The best shawarma in Delhi

by Varun Nayar

On the unassuming corners of the New Friends Colony Community Centre lies a relatively small shawarma joint with a buzzing business: Al-Bake.

Don't let the chaotic ambience and the "standing tables" make you reluctant to enter. Al-Bake is one of those places that don't need to be comfortable to be popular. It serves what's arguably the best Shawarma in town, and the diverse crowd who gets to New Friends Colony market just to enjoy a good roll is there to prove so.

Our personal favorite, and probably the most renown in Delhi, is the chicken shawarma with the unmistakable characteristic Al-Bake mayonnaise sauce, which accompanies, abundant, every serving and is an essential element of the entire experience.

Only caveat: if you are vegetarian, this is not the place for you. Al-Bake only serves meaty options.

Although slightly difficult to spot at first, Al-Bake is definitely worth a little bit of walking around. You'll find it hidden between a mobile recharge store and a clothing store. And don't worry if it looks too busy: they are very quick to go through orders, even with the high amount of demands they have to cater to, and we can promise you you'll be biting into a roll of pure happiness in no time.
