Pandara Road market is known to the Delhiites as THE place to get late night butter chicken and other North Indian beautifully heavy delights. It’s small market just off Pandara Road, close to India Gate, with a collection of restaurants including Gulati, Ichiban, Pindi and Havemore. When asking for recommendations on which to try, most answers were along the lines of “go to any, they’re all awesome”, which is always a good sign.
We chose Havemore, as much because of its central position and super flashy sign as its rather inviting name – we did intend to have more, and more.
The interior is typical family style, with lots of four person booths, all in ‘classic’ shades of beige and brown. Service was friendly, informative and prompt and, even on a Tuesday, the atmosphere was lively.
The waiter recommended butter chicken and malai tikka, we went with him on the butter chicken but opted for panner tikka tandoor and some gobi masala on the side. The food came quickly, looked great and tasted great. We thought the butter chicken wasn’t quite as good as all-time favourite Moti Mahal, but it was still a delicious late night option, and filled us up well into the next day.
A trip to Pandara Road is worth it as much for the fun of the market and the chance to eat at restaurants that have been serving the same food since 1959 (both Have More and Gulati boast this on their hoardings), as it is for the delicious food itself.
We’d definitely recommend Havemore but, as everyone else suggested: “go to any, they’re [probably] all awesome”.
