Iranian chai in Bombay

by Sameer Kulavoor

Step into the place and you feel you have gone back in time. Kyani, set up in 1904 is one of the few Irani cafes that have survived in Bombay. Nothing seems to have changed there from the red checkered table cloths to the typical Irani chairs, table fans, mirrored pillars, hand-painted vintage posters on the wall, and of course the taste of Kyani's Irani chai. The mawa cakes, pastries and cookies are delicious too. Observing people while while waiting for my bun muska (buttered bun) and chai can be a great occasion of inspiration.
