Superstar dosa in Hyderabad

by Sonali Mahajan

Dosa with chutney we all know. But dosa at Chutney’s, now that’s a novelty. Quite easily among the favourite haunts of food connoisseurs of Hyderabad, this restaurant takes typical South Indian cuisine to a different level of delicious.
Don’t be misled by the name Chutney's Coffee House however, because this place is anything but just a coffee house. From breakfast and lunch to dinner, Chutney’s will cater to your hunger pangs at all times of the day. But selecting from among delicious dosas, soft and steaming idlis and fluffy uttapams becomes a task in itself. Which is why there are repeat visitors: one visit just isn’t enough to sample the full spread.
If it’s your first time, do have the steamed dosa. Steaming, mildly-fragranced, soft and immensely healthy, this dosa has no equal. Made without a single drop of oil, Chiranjeevi, the Telugu superstar, shared his kitchen recipe with the restaurant. These ‘noble’ origins, as well as the sheer delightful taste, make it the most ordered dish on the menu.
But don’t let the ‘steam’ deceive you. A delight to the taste buds, this dosa packs quite a punch. You might want to have no plans after Chutney’s, the best activity after partaking being a siesta.
At Chutney’s you’re most certainly spoiled for choice. Besides the dosa, you can have the South Indian Thali – a sumptuous fare, at a very reasonable price too. Then there’s the Babai Hotel Idli. Dripping in pure ghee and butter, it is a sinful indulgence you won't regret having.
Every South Indian dish on the menu is accompanied by chutneys - coconut, coconut and tomato, ginger and dal. You could make a meal of just those.
The menu is indeed wide, but avoid falling for Mughlai or Chinese temptations, as there is no novelty there.
Finish with a glass of buttermilk or a cup of classic filter coffee for a typical South Indian meal experience.
