One thing about Delhi is that, sometimes, nothing makes you happier than finding a place where you don't feel like you are in Delhi. And The Grey Garden, a new restaurant and café in Haus Khas Village, is exactly that place.
Opened by three friends with careers in fashion, music, design and a love for cooking good food, The Grey Garden is first of all a restaurant that serves selected, delicious dishes (Indian and not), from ricotta and pear pizza to fish in banana leaves. But The Grey Garden is also a great, fun and chilled out hang out spot, ideal even just to have a coffee or a glass of wine.
The place is small (four or five tables inside, one outdoor), very cozy, with an interesting decor that makes it unique, particularly because of the collection of curious objects displayed under the tables' glass tops. Our favourite is the notebook with a collection of matchboxes coming straight from one of the owners' childhood: ask about the "same, same" page if you are in the mood for a cute little story.
The service is both relaxed and attentive: the friendly staff are determined to make you feel comfortable and honestly interested in your opinion on service, food, ambience (don't worry, they won't make you fill any forms).
They also organise "supper clubs", which is really exciting, and more surprises will come in the next few months, one of which possibly involving a rooftop terrace and one of the best views of Hauz Khas water tank ever.
Just a side note: the first time you go there, it may take you a bit to find The Grey Garden. Don't give up, the place is absolutely worth a bit of wandering in the village.
