Care for some tea? (With cookies, and cake)

You know that quaint tea room you've been dreaming of in Delhi, a lovely place to have tea and cake? It's finally here.

In Hauz Khas Village, surprise surprise. Started by the same people who, a couple of years ago, made us very happy opening TLR, Elma's Bakery is a tea room, pastry shop and bakery with a mix of French and English character.

Counters full of bread, croissants, cookies and cakes, floral drapery, an old off-white piano and old-school big windows with a gorgeous view of the park: Elma's is the perfect place to sit down, have tea and cake, and love life.

The bread and pastry items are good, probably some of the best in town: we tried a few types of bread and a selection of cookies and cakes and recommend the multigrain and the bacon bread loaves and the oatmeal and raisin cookies.

But it's the overall ambience that makes the place unique. Don't go there just to buy bread to take home but make sure you have time to sit down and relax. Bring a book or friends to chat with (better if nicely dressed, it would suit the decor) and enjoy.

Only the service isn't yet perfect, but we'll forgive that both because the place isn't yet "officially" open and because they use the loveliest retro cutlery and crockery, so when your order finally does come it's such a joyful sight that you'll forget that getting it wasn't the smoothest process.

So next time you're around Hauz Khas Village remember to check out Elma's Bakery. You'll lave a bit happier than you were when you arrived, we promise you.

Update

We went back to Elma's, which is now all set to open officially. A much better experience service-wise: the Cordon Bleu-trained chef Shelly was there to make sure the service was perfect and was happy to give reccomendations on what to try. She made us taste more delights: the scones with their home made jam, served warm, were fantastic. They've also added sandwiches and savories to the menu, and we also tasted their homemade mustard which is just brilliant.
