Brownies for the gods in Bombay

by Sarah Jane Fotheringham

Moist, chocolately brownies. With tasty combinations of marshmallow, caramel, walnut, rum, raisin, truffle, chocolate chips, cookies. And we’re not talking about good brownies, we’re talking about possibly the best brownies we’ve had in India.

Theobroma, whose name means “food of the gods,” makes desserts that would make any god happy. Cheesecakes, fruit tarts, mousse cakes: all are very good.

But it’s the brownies that truly can’t be missed and are worth jostling between packed tables and waiting in line at the counter for. And because it’s so hard to pick one out of the many choices, the chances of you going back again and again for more are pretty high. Though we always end up having our favourite – the millionaire - a winning combination of caramel, chocolate chips and dark chocolate truffle.

But if you aren’t lucky enough to be near their tiny Colaba shop (where it’s best to take-away) or the more spacious and newer Bandra outlet, worry not: Theobroma delivers all over India. As they say, if you will not go to Theobroma, Theobroma must come to you.
