Badampal? Yes pal.

Being a taste-aholic in India isn’t easy. Having to jump off packed busses, being late for appointments and holding up friends in order to satisfy an inquisitive palette are some of the downfalls of being a food addict in a land of flavours. But occasionally a determination to discover new wonders yields scrummy results, for instance finding some unparalleled badampal in Ernakulam.

Badampal is a sweet, creamy, almost pudding-thick drink made with sweetened milk, sliced fresh almonds and a dollop of ice-cream on top. And while there are many good badampal carts around the city, few - or perhaps none - serve badampal as good as the one usually found hovering on M.G. Road, Ernakulam, somewhere near the Jayalakshmi Store.

A humble cart with a funky, easily noticeable sign, this is "the" Badampal Cart, home to the yummiest badam shakes in the city.

So, if you’re a flavour hunter and happen to be in Ernakulam, try tracking down this treat. Cross your fingers and try M.G. Road, looking out for the bright sign. The only caveat is that you'll want more and more of it. Perhaps the only way to avoid over-indulgence is to have one, then walk away. Fast.
