Located at one end of Hauz Khas Village, Yeti is the kind of restaurant that can turn a regular evening dining out with friends into a silent party with everyone just quietly devouring their food.
The restaurant has a selection of Nepalese, Tibetan, Khasi and Bhutanese cuisine. The owners have carefully chosen the dishes, showing Dilliwallas that Himalayan cuisine goes much beyond momos.
The interiors help making you feel like you have just stepped in a restaurant up in the mountains, with Tibetan prayer flags adorning the walls, prayer chants playing in the background and a pleasant staff dressed in the traditional Nepali garb. The biggest hit is the Nepali thali or “Thakali”, consisting of an assortment of vegetables, lentils, pickles, rice and a choice between mutton, pork and chicken for the non vegetarians.
The food is delicate yet has an incredible flavour and taste. The Jadoh with Dohkleh, a Khasi dish made with rice cooked in meat stock and served with meat flavoured with onions and spices, is delicious - the pork tender and the flavour of the green chillies lingering but not overpowering. The Gundruk Sadeko (steamed spinach tossed in Nepali spices) is quite tangy but interesting nevertheless.
It's not easy to find well prepared Himalayan cuisine in Delhi, and we suggest you take a culinary trip to Hauz Khas village to try some. And, in case you are dining alone, Yeti has a selection of coffee table books on the history of Nepal and Tibet that can keep you company while you dine.
