What doesn't stay in Mukteshwar

by Annalisa Merelli

About six months ago, W+K Exp. organised an art camp and invited 16 Indian artists to spend a few days together in Mukteshwar. They shared inspirations, spoke about their work, had long walks in the forest, talked about art, had a good time and went back to their own workshops.

Then they worked, and each of them created two pieces of work inspired by the experience. Luckily for the public, what happens in Mukteshwar may stay in Mukteshwar (though it's been thoroughly documented on the camp's blog), but the work that happens after Mukteshwar is for everyone to see.

From photography to sculpture to canvas, the exhibition showcases a works of all genres and mediums inspired by the art camp. In certain cases, the reference to Mukteshwar is clear, in other less evident, yet all the works are meant to take forward the dialogue that the group started last summer.

The show is set up in a haveli which is still under renovation and, after the finishing touches by architect Saurabh Dakshini who worked on the set up for the show, has a somewhat metaphysical art quality to it, and seems to be coming out of a De Chirico painting.

This haveli also happens to be right in front of Olive, so a visit to the exhibition also makes for a lovely lunch break or a great afternoon in the early spring sun. There's even a brand new, pampering spa upstairs from Olive, and you may want to indulge.

Not to miss: there is a viewfinder pointed to the forest on the far left window. Look through it from the second floor, it's beautiful.
