April showers bring May flowers

by Prashant Miranda

I traveled around India for six months, mostly to get away from the harsh Canadian winters, but also to replenish my soul and get inspired once again. As usual, inspiration dawns in the strangest of moments, and this time I had a dream while at Goa, of a crow.

I sketched the crows on the beach the next day, and did little studies of them. I travelled to Bangalore next, where all the flowers were in bloom, and subconsciously these aspects have come out through my latest paintings.

I keep a sketchbook at all times, as I am a chronic doodler, and I started off my latest one with "April showers bring May flowers", these coupled with my love of Indian textiles, and the kinds of people I've come across some with flowers tucked behind their ears, or the magical realism that exists when you simply walk down a street, trigger off evocative images in my mind.

Mostly these paintings are outpourings between my need to document the things I see, and the fantastic frequencies out of my head.
